The Burlington is an excellent choice for those wishing to explore Dublin, and the city has a great selection of attractions, whether it is your first visit or a welcome return to the Irish capital. If you are new to Dublin and visit during the summer, it is worth checking out The Dublin Experience (College Street; Tel: 01 6082308), a multimedia show found in Trinity College. Particularly entertaining for families, this hour-long show fills in a little of the history around Dublin from its origins to the present, as well as describing some of its more famous inhabitants.
If you wish to experience a little history, there is a wealth of museums and galleries to explore, including Dublin City Gallery (Parnell Square North; Tel: 01 2225550), the National Museum of Archaeology and History (Kildare Street; Tel: 01 6777444) and Dublin Castle (Palace Street; Tel: 01 6777129). A particular historical highlight is Dublin Writers Museum (Parnell Square; Tel: 01 8722077). This museum celebrates the city’s literary contribution, and includes displays about such greats as Oscar Wilde, Samuel Beckett and James Joyce.
Dublin also has a good sporting heritage, most notably at Croke Park Stadium, and a famous reputation for its shopping and nightlife. However, probably one of the most popular experiences in the city is the Guinness Storehouse (St. James’s Gate; Tel: 01 4084800). Fans of the black stuff have the opportunity to see the brewing process, take a look at the history of the brand, learn how to pour the perfect pint and finally enjoy a glass of Guinness at the top of a building shaped like a massive pint glass.
